Alex Velazquez
COACHING BIO: A successful coach at various levels since first receiving his F license and becoming involved with youth soccer in Newark, NJ in 1996, Alex solidified his role as a key figure in the area when he facilitated the merger of Ironbound Strikers and Sport Club Portuguese to create Ironbound Sport Club. Later, with Alex serving as the club’s Director of Coaching, they absorbed an additional team affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army local to Newark, NJ and officially became known as Ironbound Soccer Club. The club continued to grow, participating in more competitive leagues including the USYSA National League and has proven itself to be an organization consistently competing at a high level. As a coach, Alex has lead his teams to a number of highlights including a NJ State Cup Championship in 2017, NJYS 2nd State Championship in 2015 and second place in 2010, and Super Y League National Championships in 2011 and 2012. In addition to providing support as a coach, Alex has a strong interest in the personal development of his players, with an emphasis on higher education.
